Supporting St. Croix Local Businesses

Right now here in St. Croix our local economy needs support.  By doing this we need to support our local businesses.  By supporting our own local Virgin Island business it keeps the money within our community, and it also helps us to develop a better sense of our community as a whole.  Our local business are people who live in the community and they pride themselves in giving great products.  When we support our local businesses we are supporting one another, the local businesses will give back to the community as a whole also.
As Virgin Islanders, we take pride in supporting our local own businesses.  Since moving back to St. Croix in the past four years, I try my best each day to support our local merchants.  Besides having my car serviced at a local Honda Dealership, which is locally owned, and our wonderful boutiques, I am a shopper, I find nice quality, unique items at my locally owned dress stores.
Our local fishermen, and farmers offer us fresh fish and produce from their gardens and from fishing.  The fish is much fresher than in the supermarkets.  Our farmers have fresh local herbs, vegetables, coconut water, and other local fruits and preservatives, that you do not often see in the supermarkets.  I find shopping at the local vendors, you can get great spices, jams, and local fruit drinks, such as sorrel, passion fruit, Mauby, and tamarind drink.  When in season, we get our fresh variety of mangoes, avocado, kenips, guava, guava berry, gooseberry, and many other local Caribbean delights.
When we support our local business, we increase competition and also lower prices.  As our community here in the Virgin Islands, continues to grow, we need to encourage our friends and family to support their local business.  It gives us a sense of pride, and and helps us to carry on the culture as we know it to be.
So next time when your out and about here in St. Croix, and your heading out to do some shopping.  Consider your local businesses and give them your support.
