Happy Mother's Day to All

Sunday May 12, we celebrate Mothers Day.  This is the second time I am celebrating Mother's Day with out my Mom.  My Mom passed February 12 2012.  Do I miss her, yes.  I think about her all the time.  But I have good memories of her, and I carry them with me. When I think about me, and how I miss my Mom, my thoughts, are on all the other Mothers on Mothers day, who have lost their children, sons, or daughters to gun violence, war, sickness.  I think about those Mothers who recently are re-united with their daughters or sons, who have been missing and found.  I think about the Mothers who have just given birth, and adopted their first child. I think about the women who cannot for what ever reason have children, but would have been a Mother figure to god children, nieces, nephews. I think about the mothers who, have children and cannot accept who they have become, or their sexual identity. I think about the so called Mom's who have mistreated thei...

Well the Diva is back on track.  After having a fun time here in the beautiful Caribbean Island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.   Last month was St. Croix's Food & Wine Experience, "Taste of St. Croix".  It is a week-long festival that is held every April.  This week long event  brings celebrity chefs, along with our  ownVirgin Island Chefs, and wine makers to St. Croix.  The St. Croix Foundation raises funds for community programs, and preserving our historic island.  This was the second year that I attended the event.  Sunset Barbecue on the Pier in ( http://tasteofstcroix.com/ )the town of Frederiksted, on Friday, and then Wine Tasting on Saturday night. Diva had fun.  Then the Diva was off to dinner the next week with a friend and we dined at one of our local restaurants also in Frederiksted, Sand Castle Sandcastleonthebeach on the beach.   My friend Eugene Petersen, (Doc) was on stage serenading us with his b...

Diva in The Carribean - Keeping It Real!

Whenever I go to my Zumba classes the word perseverance seems to come to mind.  Trying to stay healthy is a must for all of us.  I know for me I am keeping high blood pressure at bay, cholesterol  and just trying to be healthy in the long run.  My goal is to stay fit and healthy. We pick up magazines and we see all these beautiful thin bodies, and we say hey, I want to look just like that.  But I think we forget they are just pictures of models, who the magazine pays well to pose.  But in truth we all are different shapes and sizes.  But whatever your shape or size we all want to keep it moving, and that is what Zumba does too me.  At first I was not losing the weight I thought I should of been losing, but I had to learn also to watch my eating habits and change the way I eat. I am a chicken eater, and I love me some wings, my weakness.  What I was not doing was taking skin off my chicken, and now I do more bake chicken, without the ...

Diva In The Caribbean -Embracing Culture

Welcome to Elle's Happy Mid-Week Happy Hour! The Diva of the Carribean... How is the week so far?  It is holy week, and some are camping out, and others like me, will just be chilling and enjoying the beauty of the Island.  Well this past week-end, this Diva had a wonderful time.  Concert at Fort Fredrik, in Frederiksted., with Dion Parson and the 21st Century Band.  St. Croix's Big Band, and local musicians, and singing.    Then on Saturday, was the Moko Jumbie exhibit, at the Steeple Museum in Christiansted.  Great exhibit, great work by all local artists.  Exhibit a must see. And then Sunday was,  ZUMBA , fantastic . Had a blast, and I feel good.  Had to rub down with my friend Bengay, but hey, I had a good workout.  Of course all my Diva friends were there, and my ZUMBA instructors, Evelyn, Sonsirez, Diane. The Diva's Rock! Moving back to St. Croix, after being away for many, many years, can prove to be very challenging in s...

DIVA IN THE CARIBBEAN

I call this my Happy Hour Spot .  As I come here to share my feelings of the week.  So sit back, have a Cruzan Rum drink , or a glass of wine and lets talk. Its Wednesday and its another beautiful day here in the Virgin Islands.  Do not know about you but lately a friend of mine and a few other people I have been talking too have been dealing with powerful emotions.  That in itself can be challenging.  Sometimes we are dealing with sickness, bad experiences in our life, or just simply thinking about the state of our economy.  I know so well it can be over whelming.  Some of us tend to bottle up and suppress our emotions and keep it all inside.  Then there are some of us who repress their feelings by denying them. I find myself meditating more, each morning as I walk my dog, and inhale the sea breeze, and admire the beautiful water front, in the town of Frederiksted, St. Croix, I look out at that beautiful blue, green ocean and thank t...
